Undoubtedly, Winner of The Year goes to McDonald's. The brand finished last year with 13,444 restaurants after gaining a net of 6 locations, marking the first time growing its domestic footprint in 8 years. However, McDonald's didn't entirely escape macroeconomic pressures. In April, multiple media outlets said the brand planned to lay off hundreds of employees as part of an organizational restructuring. It would be interesting to see if McDonald's can retain the top spot next year.
