3. Mushrooms
The anti-depressant qualities of mushrooms are due to their rich Vitamin D content. Vitamin D's main role is converting and regulating the conversion of tryptophan into serotonin. The goal is to maintain the right amount of serotonin, which can ward off depression and anxiety. Too much or too little serotonin can have adverse effects.
Although we usually get our Vitamin D from the sun. But the Vitamin D found in mushrooms and fatty fish tends to have a higher absorption rate, according to studies from Philadelphia-based MNC Nutrition.
