Another typical food rich in fiber is apple. Just one medium-sized apple with skin contains 4.4 grams of fiber, approximately 17% of the recommended daily intake. The pectin in apples is converted to short-chain fatty acids by fermentation in the intestine, thus softening the stool and reducing intestinal transit duration.
