Tips for making delicious oatmeal

  • Try oatmeal with different textures. Let's admit it: some people like their oatmeal as creamy as porridge, while others find it too mushy. In that case, both the amount of water you use and the oat type affect the final texture. Use less broken-down forms of oats or add less water than indicated by cooking instructions on the packaging if you fancy chewier oatmeals. You may even combine several types of oat to achieve the balance of creaminess and chewiness.
  • Soak your oats. Soaking reduces cooking time in half. More importantly, raw oats contain phytic acid, which inhibits mineral absorption. But don't worry: overnight soaking or cooking significantly reduces phytic acid.
  • Flavor the liquid. For those who find oatmeal bland, substitute water (or even milk) with tea, coconut milk, or juice to your oatmeal to make your oatmeal more flavorful.
  • Add toppings to your oatmeal. Once you finish cooking the base oatmeal, add your favorite toppings: nuts and seeds, nut butter, fruits, yogurt, chia pudding, and more.
