Yes, mold is not always undesirable in food. In fact, some of your favorite dairy products-cheese, no matter hard or soft, can't happen without certain types of molds. Other safe molds are used to ferment soybeans into soy sauce, or contribute to fermented beverages like the Japanese drink sake. The production of these foods can take advantage of different molds, as they can't satisfy the needs of harmful mycotoxins to grow.
