Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Goot Essa LLC of Howard, Pa., has recalled one lot of Goot Essa brand Der Mutterschaf Cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, pregnant women and others with weakened immune systems; consumers should stop using the product immediately and not eat it. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall. The company discovered the contamination through routine testing and is cooperating with the FDA.
The recall covers lot code(s) 33 of Der Mutterschaf Cheese packaged in clear plastic 4 oz (UPC 810154560189) and 8 oz (UPC 810154560196) containers, marked with lot number 33 on a sticker on the back. The product has been sold since Sept. 15, 2025, online and at select U.S. retailers, and was distributed to seven customers in New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut and Montana through retail stores and restaurants.
