Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Stutz Packing Company of Indio, Calif., has voluntarily recalled its 1-pound packages of Shelled Walnuts because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, and can cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women. Consumers who have the recalled product should not eat it and should stop using it immediately.
The recall applies only to 1-pound Shelled Walnuts, UPC 7 15001 00908 1, in clear plastic packaging with a red-outlined white box and “SHELLED WALNUTS” printed on the front, with lot code(s) 24171 1 or 24172 1 (examples: 24171 1A, 24171 1E); the lot code format is YY DDD Shift Alpha. These walnuts have been distributed to food bank warehouses and their downstream distribution centers in Texas and Arizona, and may have reached consumers, smaller food banks, school lunch programs, shelters or prison food systems, and have been sold since June 19, 2024 (Julian date 171) and thereafter.
Stutz has suspended production and distribution of the affected product while FDA and the company continue their investigation; to date no illnesses have been reported. Consumers with the product should discard it or return it to the location where it was obtained and may request a refund or replacement.
