Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Quesito El Establo of Salem, N.H., has recalled all Spanish Cheese (Quesito Colombiano) produced at its facility after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration observed rodent activity and other insanitary conditions that could lead to contamination, including with Salmonella. Consumers are urged not to eat or use the product and to stop using it immediately to avoid potential illness, particularly for infants, elderly people, pregnant persons and those with weakened immune systems.
The recall covers Spanish Cheese (Quesito Colombiano) units bearing lot code(s) stamped AUG 22 2025 or earlier. The product is packaged in plastic, placed in Ziploc bags, each unit about 1 lb., and marked with a blue sticker featuring a cow and “Quesito Colombiano” in yellow; expiration dates are stamped on the label. The cheese has been distributed online and at select U.S. retailers, including Hispanic/Latino retail stores in Massachusetts, and have been sold since Aug. 22, 2025.
Consumers should not consume the product and are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it following local guidance; if uncertain, consumers should retain packaging and contact their retailer for instructions. No illnesses have been reported to date; the company has ceased production and distribution while the FDA and the firm continue their investigation.
