Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Pacific Trellis Fruit, LLC has recalled Malichita brand whole cantaloupes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration linked the fruit to a Salmonella outbreak; the bacteria can cause severe illness, particularly in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled cantaloupes immediately and not eat them.
The recall covers Malichita whole cantaloupe, PLU 4050, with lot code(s) 21651, 21699, 21775, 21787 and 21870. The cantaloupes have been sold since Oct. 18, 2023, online and at select U.S. retailers and were distributed Oct. 18–26 in California, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin, as well as in Canada; the fruit is packed in corrugated cartons and is labeled with a price look-up sticker reading “Malichita.”
Consumers should dispose of or return affected cantaloupes to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement and may request assistance by emailing [email protected]; customers without email access should check the company website or contact their retailer for return instructions. Anyone who believes they have become ill after consuming these cantaloupes should seek medical attention and report symptoms to their health care provider.
