Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 16, 2026 — Tri-Union Seafoods has issued a recall of select Genova tuna products after discovering that a third‑party distributor inadvertently shipped quarantined cans linked to a February 2025 voluntary recall. The recall is prompted by a manufacturing defect in the “easy open” pull‑tab can lid that may compromise the seal and allow contamination with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause potentially fatal foodborne illness. Consumers should stop using the affected products immediately and not eat them; anyone feeling unwell after consumption should seek prompt medical attention.
The recalled items include Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil 5.0 oz 4‑pack (UPC 4800073265) with lot code(s) S84N D2L (Best if Used By 1/21/2028) and S84N D3L (Best if Used By 1/24/2028), and Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt 5.0 oz (UPC 4800013275) with lot code(s) S88N D1M (Best if Used By 1/17/2028). These products have been sold online and at select U.S. retailers, including Meijer (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH, WI), Giant Foods (MD, VA), and stores operated by Safeway/Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions, and have been sold since Sept. 15, 2025; consumers should check can bottoms for the listed UPCs, lot code(s), and “Best if Used By” dates.
Consumers with recalled cans may return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, dispose of them, or contact Tri‑Union Seafoods to request a retrieval kit and a coupon for replacement product; to request a refund or replacement, email [email protected] or call 833‑374‑0171 (Mon.–Fri., 9 a.m.–5 p.m. EST). If you are unsure whether your product is included, check retailer notices or contact the company by email for confirmation. Media inquiries should be directed to [email protected].
