Other Tips
- Use the freezer and reduce food waste. If you do weekly or biweekly grocery shopping, you know the pain of finding rotten meat or produce in your fridge. Cut and freeze them before they go bad, will you? Food waste reduction also applies to left-overs. Put them in an airtight container, will you? Use them within a week in the fridge. Otherwise, throw the container in the freezer to prevent food from going rancid.
- Skip prepared produce. Pre-sliced or washed produce in a package are the biggest enemy to staying on a budget. If you are not fond of cutting veggies before cooking, opt for frozen ones.
- Buy seasonal produce. Unseasonal produce are pricer because they are either grown in greenhouses or transported from distant places.
- Buy staple ingredients in bulk. Most grocery stores have such a section full of dried beans, grains, rice, nuts, seeds, etc.
- Follow a budget-friendly blogger/Youtuber. Many of them display the cost of each dish.
